Here are some things I wrote down to remember that happened this past Spring:
Lucy was on a real big puzzle kick. She can put together a 100 piece puzzle by herself now. She also helped on a 1000 piece Dumbo puzzle that Marc and I did. The puzzle fun fizzled when she mixed 6 of her 100 piece puzzles together! When the rainy season starts we will get back to it, I'm sure. She was always singing songs that she makes up, and one afternoon she pointed out the piano when she heard it being played in a song. Cool! She started to get her own breakfast in the morning some days, pulling a chair out to get the high things, and even pouring her own milk. This can be a messy thing, but exciting that she is figuring out how to do things on her own. I had realized she was using a chair to reach the candy "sprinkles" in the pantry, and had to put them on the top shelf. A week or so later, I caught her in the pantry in the sugar!!! She said to me, "Mom, you better put the sugar higher." It was funny! Lucy had began to fall asleep by herself right after her 4th birthday, but she stopped after a couple of months. One night when talking with her about this, I pointed out that Jake is falling asleep on his own. She replied, "but MOM, he's a BABY!" In her mind, of course the little baby needs less help then her! ;)
Jake has changed by leaps and bounds! Way back in March, when he was 9 months old, his two bottom teeth popped out at the same time. By May he was working on his 3rd, and now in August he has 4 on top and two on bottom. In March he was awake in his crib, and when I walked in the room he reached up his arms and said, "Mama." This was his first word, and it was a heart warmer! He started to say Dada, and in May he began to say "Uh-oh," which of course became a fun game, to drop something and then say Uh-oh, and we encouraged it because it was so cute! He also says Bird. "Bir" He was still a noisy eater, and also noisy as he falls asleep. I am so proud of him for being able to fall asleep on his own...he just wants his binky and special blanket. He loves to read books, and balls are a favorite toy. When he was 11 months he gave me a kiss! It was so special. On June 9th he took his first steps!!! Big boy!
The kids are both so much fun to be around. They are starting to bond and play together, though Lucy doesn't always want to play with him. However, as he is able to do more things, she is seeing how fun he can be! We had a nice spring, playing at home, working in the garden, visiting friends and going to OMSI and the zoo. Parenting two kids can be a challenge though! I think I have at least one moment of exasperation per day. But, at the same time, along with all of the hard work there are also many moments of pure love and happiness per day...the trick I am learning is to focus on those and let go of the stress! Time is passing quickly and I will miss these days sooner then I think.
